About Phoenix Cultural Centre of Toronto
Established in 2015, the Phoenix Cultural Centre of Toronto (also known as the Phoenix Institute) is one of Canada’s leading independent arts organizations, dedicated to the production, distribution, and promotion of independent artistic works. Initially focused on championing Iranian cinema in Toronto, the Centre has since expanded its mandate to support a wide range of artistic and cultural projects across Canada.
Over the past decade, the Centre has distributed more than 50 films nationwide and has produced and financed four feature films. Today, it operates its own online TV channel dedicated to showcasing independent and art-house cinema, partners with and produces several film festivals—including the Cyrus International Film Festival and the Toronto CIFT—and serves as the publisher of Phoenix Journal (in Farsi) and Universal Cinema (in English).
